American Truck Training is here to let you know that the Federal Motor Career Safety Administration (FMCSA) rolled out its Entry Level Driver Training (ELDT) regulations earlier this month. The ELDT requirements apply to drivers who obtain a commercial learner’s permit (CLP) on or after February 7, 2022. The regulations are not retroactive; so, drivers who were issued a CDL or an S, P, or H endorsement prior to February 7, 2022, are not required to complete the EDLT training.
If you are applying to the following courses, you are considered an entry-level driver:
You will be required to complete a mandatory knowledge (theory) and behind-the-wheel (BTW) training program to complete your entry-level driver training before you can take your CDL skills test. Once you complete the entry-level driver training required for the Class A CDL, you will also be eligible to take the skills test for both the Class A CDL and Class B CDL.

According to the FMCSA, the ELDT regulations and the Training Provider Registry were mandated under the Moving Ahead for Progress in the 21st Century Act (MAP-21). The ELDT final rule was based, in part, on consensus recommendations from the Agency’s Entry-Level Driver Training Advisory Committee (ELDTAC), a negotiated rulemaking committee that held a series of meetings in 2015.
American Truck Training is certified and registered as a Training Provider for these new regulations. Therefore, ATT meets all applicable Federal and State entry-level driver training requirements.
Once you successfully complete your course at American Truck Training, we will submit your certification to the FMCSA via the Training Provider Registry.
